The only thing that wonders me is that there's so much velocity loss in the Desert Eagle barrel (300 fps minus 50 fps for cold weather and messuring device at longer distance => 250 fps). It also groups good (4 out of 5 rounds in 1" on a good day, without rest) so you don't hear me complaining. It kicks significantly less than full power loads but performs 100% reliable (in contrast to the heavy magnum loads) after shooting 200 rounds. Still, it is a standard magnum load and only performs like a light magnum load in the Desert Eagle. The device was about 3 yards away from the muzzle and temperature was near freezing. Now yesterday a friend at the range had his speed messuring device with him and these loads clocked between 950 fps and 1050 fps out of my DE. According to the Vihtavuori manual this should give something between 13 fps in a revolver with 7" barrel.

With lighter loads this doesn't happen.įor the last 200 rounds I shot through my Desert Eagle I have used a 245 grain FMJ bullet or a 240 grain JSP bullet with 15 grains of Vihtavuori N105. My theory for this is that the slide moves so fast with these heavy magnum loads that the ejector claw loses the empty case causing a stove-pipe jamm. I always hear that you need to feed your DE heavy loads near maximum pressure, but my experience is that those loads (at least in my DE) cause failures to extract. 44 magnum that I shoot frequently and the weird thing is that it prefers lighter.
